Small addition

I am really not sure how long I spent on each project here, I should probably note the time when I start and finish, though a lot of the projects I know I spent more than the allotted hours for (robot) I am less happy with than ones I know I did in a rush the night before.

Last bit

These are just a couple of little pieces I did a while back, unfortunately I haven't finished them but I thought it was worth putting them up. I've been saying for a while that I needed to study expressions, so I decided to start an expressions sheet, though I still need to work a lot more on this.

The second piece is just heading back to my life drawing roots to get in touch with basic lighting and anatomy, I started with the line art, followed by shadow and then light.

Finally.

So I finally got around to this tutorial, it was very interesting (though the start of it was similar to what I've picked up through life drawing in the past, the build up of light and shade etc.)

The face on my drawing is a little off from the original, but I squashed everything slimmer and then warped the face until I could get it as close as I could. I found the tutorial a little hard to follow just because it was so drawn out, I also couldn't see things like brush opacity as the toolbar was cut off the top of the screen for some reason.

The gradual build up works very nicely, everything blends together. I'll have to try to use it more in the future to avoid a cut/collage appearance.

AGH

I barely have time to breathe animating this thing for the 14th so unfortunately I haven't been able to complete the painting Steve wanted me to try duplicate, I only have the background for it and I didn't think a blue square was worth posting, so instead I'm posting up some quick sketches I did between animating.

The purple thing is completely unreferenced but the second drawing is based off my fat pet rat, Vegeta. Only the head is referenced, the rest is just drawn in the shape of a pear  with feet...because he's a very pear shaped rat.

I know it's insanely bright but I liked it that way... probably won't like it by the time I wake up tomorrow (2:00am)

Not as defined as I'd like but a little work should fix that.
colour fix

Also with a mouse rather than a tablet

EEEEEGGGG

DRAWN WITH A MOUSE.

So this was basically just to practice around with light and shade, after all it's the chiaroscuro that gives an object a 3d appearance. However to get to grips with this in a way that isn't direct copying I think i'll have to create basic objects in my head and shade them without reference (spheres, cubes etc) and then compare them with max models with lighting to see if my understanding is correct.

So I've been trying to think about what I could possibly specialise in and after long thought... I have no real clue but I'm going to try and see if animals could be my thing, wild animals, pets and mounts. Monsters are a different kettle of fish but hopefully after studying animal anatomy in more detail they should follow.

I painted this after watching a couple hours worth of Bobby Chiu tutorials, though it doesn't look like his work in particular I used the same linework followed by a build up of tones then colour. It's actually a mixture of a Fossa and a Racoon dog but you'd never guess... looks like a flooofy cat.

Not sure..

Not sure if i'll be able to make it to class tomorrow, my dry cough has turned into a really nasty wet cough.

ALL the smoke!!!

Really not that happy with how this came out, it has a crazy contrast thing going on with his arm and the smoke. I think the problem is I shaded him in such a way he is far more suited to a day time scene, originally I was planning to have him on a well lit roof at night, but I had some bad problems with drawing this background in. I am most happy with his face and neck which were un referenced. Overall the background is far too dark.

Hmm.

So first I tried to work in a Darrken style because I want the scene to be fairly dark... but I wasn't enjoying it so i've tried to mix my style with his... not sure if it's worked but we'll see!

I had a lot of fun painting this one, though I must say I prefer the Bobby Chiu method, I don't really enjoy working from silhouettes, if I ever use them it's normally after linework. Very nice brushes for speed painting though.

So overall the head shape is kinda off in comparison to the original and the characters right arm is a bit messy at the hand where I lassoed and altered position... wouldn't take long to fix but I'm done for the night!
Not sure if it's because I'm retarded, but I thought for ages that was one weird ass arm... two elbows!? ...... Was a while before I realised....it's the OTHER arm... yeah...

It just looks like a dog to me, no matter what happens to the head.

So yeah...

I didn't do the thing we were supposed to do, I lost my tablet all day and then found it at about 10pm... So I drew this fuzzy thing!

I am not happy with how this came out, I spent a ridiculous amount of time on it and the only polished part is the arm, which I'm not even happy with. I was pretty stressed out while drawing this and it stopped me from loosening up and just going with it. I am confident that with more time I could fix the foreshortening problem but I would prefer to start an entirely new painting, though with the same robot design, I quite like her.
