I am not happy with how this came out, I spent a ridiculous amount of time on it and the only polished part is the arm, which I'm not even happy with. I was pretty stressed out while drawing this and it stopped me from loosening up and just going with it. I am confident that with more time I could fix the foreshortening problem but I would prefer to start an entirely new painting, though with the same robot design, I quite like her.

Robot Test

So I wanted to try out sketch book pro since it has a nice mirror tool in, and just for the hell of it I had a play around in coral painter :)

So I don't really know where this came from but the light doesn't seem quite right... i might give it a quick tweak in the morning before class.

Can't think now will explain later.

Surreal Moodboard

Now there isn't much on this moodboard but that's because I already have a fair Idea of what I want to do! Nice to have that for once! I studied surrealism heavily on my history of art A level and know the elements I want to take from it :D

I didn't like the idea of doing a child playing war, i'm not sure what put me off it but now i don't even want to touch it. SO HERE IS A PIN UP.

Wasted Time

So i've basically spent the entire day unable to think straight and couldn't even think enoughto draw a thing so far. I felt like I really needed to do something with my hands so I did some more of my clay sculpture (I took it home with me to do extra work on it) Unfortunately I got too into my work today and spent about 4 hours on it.... and nothing changed... I made arms but they didn't look right so were removed.... made legs but they refused to attatch to the hips! Nothing I tried seemed to work today at all, so in the end I have just made her into a bust.

All that time I could have spent painting this brief wasted.

I'll see if I can come up with anything for later but I don't feel super awesome tonight.

War

So basically I'm interested in children playing war in a .. 50's style propaganda style, all painted with rosy cheeks. Will embellish once I try out some sketches!

I think a little bit closer to how I look, I actually managed to get my cheek lines in without making the character look like a 60 year old which I'm quite happy about :)

Oh and I did find an old self portrait I did with wax and ink, small though.

Sketches

So I started out drawing from photo references but I didn't like how things were going, no where near the style I wanted to try, it was very typical of how I work. I did try to simplify the shapes but it didn't look so good.

Since I haven't tried cartoon/stylised drawing before I thought it would probably be best to work in some other existing styles until I can settle into one of my own. Since Kiki's Delivery Service was on while I was drawing I drew in that sort of style, I had to alter it slightly as the characters are mainly children aged 13 or under. I made the lower part of the face bigger, same for the nose and I made the mouth bigger because I think that I pull stupid over the top expressions quite a bit.

I feel that I haven't written this so well, but I might be able to sort this written mess out tomorrow! It's what I get for posting so late/early :)

Self Portrait Moodboard

I have done plenty of self portraits before (I would put images up but I have no idea where they are and never want to see them again... also I think some are NSFW.) But all of them were highly realistic and detailed. I have never really had a good go at doing a cartoony style, so I'm hoping to try that in this project but also draw an expression sheet. So I'll have to have a photoshoot tomorrow afternoon sometime.

A drawing a.... well not every day....every other maybe? When I feel like it :D

So I've had a horrible art block recently which is why nothing new really happened over the holidays. I listened to a friends advice though and drew an.... art block. Which actually really helped me overcome my problems, the same night I went and painted this potato in photoshop which i'm pretty happy with! The skin of the potato is a bit flat in areas and could be a bit crispier :) Overall an alright start and OK for a few hours work.
